CAMPAIGNS AGAINST BLOODY "FIESTAS" SPAIN BENAVENTE (Zamora) "Toro Enmaromado" (Bull with ropes)  Every year the day before the religious festivity of Corpus Christi. 2009: 10th June 2010: 2nd June 2011: 22nd June 2012: 6th June 2013: 29th May 2014: 18th June 2015: 3rd June The bull is bound with ropes and dragged all over the village till he dies of exhaustion or by the cutting of his throat. The bull walks and runs for hours in the streets while people throw darts at him. When he is too tired and weak from loss of blood to continue to escape, the villagers shoot him and cut off his testicules. Please send the postcard below. This barbarity is allowed by the City Hall of Tordesillas. The bull is obliged to run in order to cross the bridge meanwhile being persecuted by a hord of men on horse and foot armed with long spears. As soon as the bull reaches the other side of the river the bloodbath begins. He is impaled with these long spears till his death. The author of his death has the right to remove his testicles and exhibit them on the point of his spear. As a reward the City Hall gives this criminal a gold badge and a spear of forged iron. This particular savagery consists in putting a kind of ball of pitch on both the horns of the bulls and setting fire to the balls. The bulls are released on the streets. These balls burn for hours, burning the horns, body and eyes, causing terrible suffering. Several times the bulls try to kill themselves against walls, due to the horrible pain.
